Join Nordmanns-Forbundet and PLU´s Scandinavian Center for the hike of a lifetime on: The Pilgrims' Road (Pilgrimsleden) to Nidaros (Trondheim) |
The old medieval pilgrim route to Nidaros was officially re-opened in 1997, and since then many have walked the old road. Originating back in the 11th century, the trail traces the path of pilgrims visiting King Olav's - Saint Olav's - grave to seek healing and solace. Today this trail, or pilgrimsleden as it is called, is being re-discovered by modern Norwegians, adventurous hikers, pilgrims, and those simply seeking solitude and peaceful contemplation.
Nordmanns-Forbundet's Pilgrim's Tour follows the same program every year with only minor changes. The tour is generally an eight-day trip - mostly on foot on the old route over the Dovre mountains. The tour ends in Nidaros where we will join hundreds of other pilgrims for midnight worship in the Nidaros Cathedral.
Price: includes all meals, transportation and stops along the way and transportation (does not include return to Oslo). A van will accompany the group to transport luggage and as a safety precaution.

Hiking And Walking! |
This is a different type of a holiday. The walks are strenuous at times, but fun filled stimulating learning experiences. We always have one or two guides per trip and we try to accommodate both slower and faster walkers and to appeal to the casual but enthusiastic walker as well as the experienced hiker. Our groups are small and personal (12 -14 people per trip) and our experienced guides are always eager to share their love and knowledge of the history and the landscape as we walk.

Accommodations & Dining |
We stay overnight on farms or in rustic Norwegian country inns that offer all around excellence, but still retain their own distinctive style and charm. Some offer simple elegance, while others are more modest surroundings with the warmth and charm that you find only at a country inn. Meals are authentic, traditional Norwegian cuisine, served by candlelight or in the late evening summer sun.

Would you enjoy? |
Following a winding trail along slate cliffs Reaching a scenic mountaintop vista Discovering meadows carpeted with wildflowers and berries Swimming in secluded lakes Visiting picturesque villages far from the beaten track
The Pilgrim Hiking Holiday offers all this and more as we explore some of the best places to hike in Norway and abroad! Our hikes cover around 5 to 15 miles a day and our tours try to accommodate both the well trained hiker and those who would like a more leisurely pace. On many days there are also choices of longer or shorter, harder or more gentle trails. This enables us to accommodate people of all ages and hiking experience from the seasoned to the first time hiker!
The thrill of reaching a spectacular viewpoint is only part of the story. We also take the time to notice the things that we find along the trail from a rare orchid to a reindeer or even a moose! Vans provide all the transportation for luggage so that all you need to carry is a small day pack.
Although we do offer choices you must remember that many of our trails are neither flat nor smooth. Uphill sections, steep at times and roots and rocks along the trails are all part of the wilderness experience. You do need to be in good physical condition to enjoy the trips.

Levels of hiking |
We do not rate individual hikes for difficulty, as on all trips we try to allow for different abilities. On each day we try to offer an easy/moderate hike as well as a more challenging option. People who choose the easier option may well be walking on fairly level and easy paths or country lanes some days, but will also be taking more moderate trails on other days. A moderate hike would involve 5 to 6 miles on terrain that may include rocks and roots, and with elevation gains up to about 800 feet. Hikers who choose harder routes should expect 10 to 15 miles with greater elevation changes.
