Day 1 |
We will leave Oslo on Friday morning and drive towards Kongsberg. Coffee and sandwiches will be served on the bus. We will be driving to the Norsk Bergverksmuseum which houses Den Kongelige Mynt and the Norsk Skimuseum. After a guided tour, we will continue by bus to the Kongsberg Church located in the 'Historical Old Town' in Kongsberg. The church is Norway's second largest church after Nidaros in Trondheim, with 3 orginal Nøstetangen chandeliers. The church has recently restored the old Gloger organ and we will be treated to a mini-concert. |
From Kongsberg we will continue north to Numedal with a guided tour of Rollag Stavkirke. This is one of only 29 remaining stave churches and the most ornately-decorated. After lunch at Vegglis Vertshus we will continue to Geilo. In Geilo our group will enjoy a special tour of the Øyo Knivfabrikk. Øyo is one of the oldest knife factories still using traditional methods and our tour is certain to be fascinating.
We will arrive at the Thon Hotell Hallingdal for a late dinner, followed by dancing for those who feel so inclined!

Day 2 |
Day 2 will be filled with the culture and history of Hallingdal. After breakfast, we will begin with a tour of Ål where we will be given a tour of the Ål Kulturhus. For those who wish to do so, time will be allowed for visiting the popular bunad shop and for exploring other shopping opportunites in town. An afternoon trip into the mountains will provide both wonderful scenery and a good lunch at Rødungstølen. On the way back to the village of Ål, we will be journeying through Leveld with a possible stop at a genuine lefse bakery. Back in Ål we will visit the Ål Bygdemuseum. The program will conclude with a stop at the Torpo Stave Church before heading back to the hotel for a banquet and entertainment.

Day 3 |
After breakfast we will say farewell to Ål. On the way back to Oslo we be driving via Gol and Gordarike - a Medival park and Stave Church. Our tour will continue through Hallingdal with visits to the Vassfaret Bjørnepark in Flå. The park opened in 1997 and is home to bears and other wild animals. We will learn more about Vassfaret's most 'colorful' citizen - Berte Skrukkefyllhaugen. She died at the age of 96 in Flå and a monument stands in the park in her honor. Guests can look forward to a lunch of Vassforsodd - a rather special dish!
The last stops of our journey before arriving back in Oslo, will be at Bjørøya at Villa Fridheim and Hønefoss. We look forward to welcoming you to a special and memorable "Homecoming Days"!
